Construction reached another major milestone last week, when the first actual window was installed. This is the start of a 5-week process. These are massive, ultra high performance windows, and are very heavy. I had the pleasure of watching a very professional crew work through installing the very first one.
- Windows go up in three panels… here’s the first of the first
- Returning to retrieve the second panel
- Second panel on truck, waiting to be loaded onto crane
- Massive suction cups used to lift the heavy panels
- It takes three men to lift a panel
- Getting the panel into position to load onto crane
- Now lifting the window onto crane bucket
- The crane starts up!
- Lifting the window slowly and carefully
- Lifting the window to the 4th floor; nearly as high as a typical 7 story building
- Looking down at the bucket from the 4th floor window
- Carefully jockeying the crane to get the window into position
- Attaching brackets to the top of the window
- Using a wrench to screw in the brackets
- Brackets all screwed on, moving into position
- Carefully controlling the bucket, inches from the wall
- Carefully moving as close as possible
- Drilling holes to attach the windows to the building
- Jockeying the second panel into position
- The first window, all in!
- The fully installed window from the inside
- You can open the windows for natural ventilation
